I just finished my two articles about the registration of a business / corporation in the Philippines. In collecting important data to support my articles, I have visited the website of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), the government agency (under the power of the Department of Finance) which is responsible for the collection of the internal revenue taxes of the Philippine government. As every organization has its own core principles, mission, vision and values, the agency also has its own. They are published in the BIR “about us” webpage that caught my strong attention. You can read them below:

The BIR Mission, Vision, Guiding Principle and Values

Mission:

The BIR shall collect internal revenue taxes for the government

Vision:

The BIR is an institution of service excellence manned by people with integrity and professionalism.

Guiding principle:

“Service Excellence with Integrity and Professionalism”

Values:

God-fearing

Consistency

Competency

Innovativeness

Accountability

Synergy

Respect

Fairness

Transparency

My Personal Insights:

On their Mission:

Currently, the BIR, specially the commissioner, has implemented ideal and strong programs to battle tax evaders and collect higher internal revenue taxes. As per their mission, those taxes are for the government and will go to the government…

On their Vision:

The institution hires and selects people who are well-educated like lawyers and certified public accountants. If they can prove to the public that their organization promotes public trust and creates major positive feedbacks from taxpayers, then I can say that their vision is clear.

On their Guiding Principle:

Add competency. I mean there are several government agencies in the Philippines. The BIR should compete with them in terms of excellence, integrity and professionalism. There are always surveys out there, ranking the best and cleanest government agencies in the country. These surveys should inspire government institutions to win the public and the people.

On their Values

My favorite is Innovativeness. Let the people talk about the rest.
