chicks-lifeAs I write this post, Twitter is already ranked 26th among the world’s most popular websites according to Alexa’s web traffic rankings. Since it’s creation in 2006, Twitter has already become a phenomenon in the online world. Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging services that enables its user to send and read messages known as “tweets”. Tweets are text-based posts of 140 maximum characters displayed on the author’s profile page and delivered to the author’s subscribers who are known as followers. I am enjoying twitter about a few months now. As of today, I already followed 1,485 twitters. 1,550 twitters also have followed me as of this time. Twitter is a place for easy connection with the people you want to follow and you want to keep an eye on whatever they do. A simple question that says “what are you doing?” does all the update of every users, tweeters and members of the site. It can also become an effective medium to promote your blog or website. That is, as long as you abide the rules of ethical social media practice. Read more

Don’t make money online

laptop-chair-deskI don’t make money online. I don’t care if money will be gone. All I want is to share my knowledge and wisdom to everyone. All I hope is to help them become better and greater men. I made a weblog to express and write my serious insights. I don’t really mind if it takes my time. I always publish articles which are original and natural. Aside from writing articles, I generously offer and give free stuff to my visitors online. I was happy to serve and give. Instead of promoting the popularity of my blog, I promote its quality and integrity. Fame is only secondary – reputation is primary.

I always visit many other blogs with the same topic as my blog to comment on their posts. I do that not to spam and be greedy of back links. I do that to participate discussions, exchange opinions and make friends online. I participate in several business and entrepreneurhip forums. Business and entrepreneurship are my loved topics, as I am blogging for business. I share my stories to inspire the forum communities I have joined. I cheerfully exchange my ideas with other members. I express my own questions. I also strive to give my best answers to their questions. I put a link to my blog in my signature. This is to open up my gate to them, so they can visit my blog and provide them relevant articles that found in my site. Read more

How to become popular? Ignore popularity.

ignore-fameAlmost everyday, I look up excitedly on the popularity report of this blog. It seems like I can’t wait my blog to see there in the top popular blog list. It takes me five minutes each day to relieve my thirst on that report. Sometimes, I find myself stuck in front of my computer starring at my popularity report. And the worst happens when I get disappointed with my rankings. What an impatient blogger, isn’t it? But after those disappointments, I realized I was wasting my time in front of that report. I asked myself, what if I only check my popularity once every month? How about once every three months? If I consume 5 minutes per day, then I can save 145 minutes or almost 2 and a half hour a month. This is already enough to write and publish 1 to 2 good articles that will increase my popularity. What is my WordPress post ID number and how can I find it?

wordpress-logoAs a move to bring this blog to a higher level, I recently changed its theme from a free theme to a premium one. Thanks for some coupon code, I got discount in purchasing this nice WordPress theme. The new theme looks nicer with the “featured article plugin”. The plugin has an option to show articles by category or by specific posts. Showing specific posts in the featured articles requires the post ID numbers of the post to be featured.

I thought I can easily find those numbers in my WordPress dashboard, but suddenly I found myself in darkness trying to find those numbers. What I have thought before is that the post ID numbers of wordpress post is the number in the post’s URL. And yes I am right. Please see example below:

http://yourdomain.com/?page_id=8

The page ID here is “8”.

http://yourdomain.com/?post_id=10

The post ID here is “10”.

I can just simply visit the URL of my post to determine their post IDs. But wait, I have turned my permalinks before to “day and name” option instead of the default permalink that shows the ID numbers of the posts:

http://yourdomain.com/?post_id=10

From the above URL link, I change it to become like the URL link below:

http://yourdomain.com/2009/06/08/business and marketing/

With the permalink structured as URL showing “day and name” of the post instead of the post ID number, where can we find now the ID numbers of our posts without changing again the setting of our permalinks?

The answer is very simple. Just go to your WordPress dashboard. Then go to “posts”. By clicking posts, you will be directed to the list of your posts (Edit Post) which are ready to be edited. To determine the ID number of your post, just hover your mouse on the post from the list. And presto! You can now see the post ID number of your post at the bottom of your window. See example URL below:

http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin/post.php?action=edit&post=10

The post ID is “10”.

That was so easy. Isn’t it? Now I can select the posts I want to be featured in my blog’s homepage using WordPress featured article plugin.
