Buycotting or simply a “BUYcott” is the opposite of a “BOYcott”. As oppose to boycott, it is an active campaign to buy the products or services of a particular company or country. A buycott is supported by consumers who make a conscious effort to buy from companies whose environmental and social policies they support. An example of buycotting is when various organizations around the world supporting Israel set up a buycott on the products and services of Israel to counter several Boycott Israel campaigns. Another example is when supporters of Whole Foods CEO John Mackey’s ideas on health care set up a Buycotts on the company to counter a boycott happened when its CEO opposed U.S. President Barack Obama’s health care reform policies.
People, organizations or activists buycott products or services to support a particular store, company or country in reaching its financial and economic goals. Consumers also perform buycotting to support a company or country that preserves the environment, promotes peace, and other activities that are beneficial and friendly to them. Furthermore, a buycott is also done to counter a boycott. However, buycotting, like boycotting, can also be manipulated by political leaders. This may result to a political market decision overshadowing social shopping decisions. But despite of this threat, buycotting promises a brighter hope for the well-being of our planet. This activism promotes companies and countries that preserve world peace, clean environment, and better living. Moreover, unlike boycotting, buycotting is a more aggressive consumer movement. It is because a consumer don’t just do nothing, he has to do something. He needs to buy goods or services. When we boycott, we reject one kind of a product for example, but we can still have several products as options. However, in buycotting, we only have one choice – to buy one brand of product among others.

I have never heard of buycotting before. I guess a company would need pretty loyal customers to convince them to only purchase from their company. This should serve as a reminder how important it is to maintain good customer relations and always provide the best customer support possible.
