Philippines’ Top 25 Blogs of 2009

Blogs are still kicking and so alive this year. Even though new social media technologies are already emerging like lifestreaming and other social networks platforms, the truth is, blogs will not be replaced instead will continue innovating and evolving into a more interactive, efficient and effective forms of web expressions. That is why blogging is still a very exciting and rewarding activity in the face of the Internet. Consequently, competition for bloggers is still in its high level.  In this article is a list of the 25 best blogs in the Philippines ranked according to popularity (Alexa) and importance (Google).

Criteria:

To be included in the quantification, a blog should either (a) be included in the Philippines’ 25 blogs with the highest ranking in Alexa or (b) be among the Philippines’ blogs with Google Pagerank of 5 or higher as of November 1, 2009. We excluded blogs that contain explicit pornography, violence and other contents which are illegal and against the law and blogs that violate copyrights.

Ranking System:

We have ranked the blogs according to Alexa and Google Pagerank as of November 1, 2009. For both Alexa and Google ranking, we’ve assigned scores to each blog, 100 for the highest and 50 for the lowest. By determining the highest and lowest amount in the range and getting the median, we have assigned 0.000066275 point increase from 50 points (lowest score) for each one point of Alexa Rank increase from the lowest point. For the Google pagerank, since PR6 is the highest, we assign it a 100 score and 50 for PR0, giving 8.333 score increase from 50 for every increase of one rank.

The list:

NaldzGraphics.net tops the list for having both high Alexa and Google Ranking. DotaStrategy blog, although has the highest Alexa ranking is listed only at the 24h spot for having a zero Google Pagerank. Most of the blogs with Google pagerank of 5 and higher are in the top ten, except Skirmisher.org (top 11) and Filipinolibrarian (in the last spot) for having only an Alexa Rank of 771,475.

Conclusion and Disclaimer:

The above ranking is based on Alexa and Google Ranking. They may not give us accurate ranking and value of a blog but they guide us and give us an idea on how popular is site and relevant to it users. A blog can get tons of traffic and have a higher ranking but still may not offer quality and relevant contents. This can be true with blogs who are creating contents to attract visitors and not to help them. An example of this is creating keyword targeted post titles, tags and descriptions but with irrelevant contents. On the other hand, a blog may also create useful contents but may not become capable of reaching its targeted visitors. In other words, it doesn’t expand its popularity around the globe. After considering those things, we can say that a blog to be tough should reckon popularity, relevance and importance. This is in order for us to create quality contents and bring these to the right users who need them. Lastly, let this inspire other bloggers to bring their blogs to the higher levels and be in the World’s best blogs in any year.
