san-juanico-bridgeDirecting is considered as the most humane function of management. It is also called as the heart of management. This function involves influencing human behavior through motivation, communication, coaching, leadership, discipline, development of interpersonal skills and assistance for the achievement of individual’s personal goals. In this function, managers are transforming into good leaders – that is, they are considering not only the organizational goals but also the personal objectives of their people. Directing tries to align the future of the organization and its people. The philosophy behind this is that, the organization cannot be considered as successful if its members are failing.

A great organizational goal is one that is created not only for the success of the organization but also for the success of its people. With this, managers should guide and help their subordinates reached out their dreams. In small businesses, owners should be more proactive to direct their employers successfully. There should be more personal interactions between a business owner and an employee to collaborate each other for the attainment of their goals. There, exists a camaraderie. Direct communication with employees can be a difficult task for managers since people in a workplace would always not tell everything about their personal issues and motives. Thus activities like team-building and spiritual retreats can be very helpful to encourage transparent communication and revelations between individuals inside the organization.

It is important that managers find out what are their staff dreaming of. Workers will become happier and more motivated if they will see and feel that their superiors are helping them to achieve their dreams. Speaking of their dreams, these may be big and small, short-term and long-term. But whatever it is, organizational leaders should try to entertain them all. The following are some examples of an employee’s little dreams that if granted by their bosses, can make them happier and more productive.

1. a cash bonus

2. a certificate of training

3. a nice and comfortable office uniform

4. an ideal Birthday Party

5. a great outing experience

6. a daily simple smile from their bosses

7. a thank you for every work they have done

8. a nice and cool office area

9. a break from work and have a relaxing vacation

10. an experience to travel in different places

11. and many more

The above personal objectives of employees are simple wishes that can greatly change their working performance once realized by their employers. A boss who can’t make simple dreams of his or her people come true can be an alarming scenario. This is because, if he can’t make a tiny wish come true, how much more can he make the big ones come true? A good entrepreneur or manager manages not only his company or his organization. He also harmoniously manages and directs his people. Finally, he is able to make the organization and its people achieve their respective righteous goals.
