We build our businesses to let them live, run and grow. That’s why business failure is a happening that we always wish and pray to never come out into reality. But how can we avoid it? Even the giant companies fail despite of their gigantic assets and equities. More and more small entities also become unsuccessful. However, this doesn’t mean business success is an impossible dream. We can be successful entrepreneurs. To achieve that, we should learn the reasons why business fails, and do our best to overcome them. Here is the list of the top ten causes why businesses do not succeed:

1. Lack of enthusiasm and passion

A business, to run constantly, should have a constant fuel or energy. Passion is like a fire that gives us the heat and zeal to always be on the go (even without obliging ourselves). Most business owners fail because they run out of love on what they are doing. This makes their hands heavy and consequently become unproductive.

2. No strategic planning

Thinking ahead of time and setting goals, doesn’t mean we are already assured to walk in the right path and reach our destinations. People fail because they don’t plan strategically. They do not formulate a plan that defines an effective strategy, direction and decision that involves its people and resources.

3. Not spending and investing a dime

Most businessmen are afraid to spend and invest their money for security purposes. This causes them to miss great business opportunities. Those opportunities don’t knock again for the second time. Eventually, their businesses become unhealthy and eventually die.

4. Misuse of assets and resources

Some people are blessed with abundant resources. However, this abundance is wasted because of misallocation and misuse of those assets. They also fail because of not utilizing those resources at all. An asset should be expected to have a positive inflow (current or future) to your business. Hence, they must be used in a productive and positive manner.

5. Poor marketing

Many enterprises do not have the effective marketing mix. They focus on promoting their products and services without producing them with high quality, setting the right prices and choosing the proper location and place of distribution. Thus, in the 4Ps of marketing, they only concentrate on “promotion” and do not consider “product, price and place”.

6. Inability to innovate

Companies fail because they don’t innovate. They don’t adjust to the requirements of time and human evolution. The Earth is revolving and men are changing. For those who cannot walk with the ever changing world, they are left behind.

7. No direction

Do you know where you going to? Sometimes a business journey faces storms that darken its ways. Those who don’t have strong and clear direction are lost in the dark. A great direction is one that you can always face forward to it no matter what stands and blocks in your way.

8. Untrained personnel

Human resources, including you as the business owner, are your most important assets. A business organization will only be considered successful if its people are also successful.

9. Lack of client and customer care

Costumers and clients are the life blood of business. This is the reason why we produce products and render services. They generate our sales and revenues. Most company owners are focusing on their own profit without giving priority to customers’ satisfaction. This gives them initial big profit. But consequently, their customers never return because of dissatisfaction. In the end, they failed.

10. Quitting

Do I need to explain it? People fail because they quit. The most successful and richest business icons on Earth faced a lot of troubles in doing business. But despite of those problems, they never quit.

Good post. I often wonder how so many businesses actually survive given how mismanaged many of them are and how they overlook important points such as customer service.
