So you want to have your own website? And the first step to have it is to buy and register your own domain name. People want to have websites maybe because they are business owners who want to give their companies online presence, they are persons who want to enter into web entrepreneurship to make money online, or just individuals who want to become internet celebrities. If you are an entrepreneur, (online or offline) you should know how to choose the perfect domain name for your website. After you’re done brainstorming for your final domain name you should buy and register it immediately. Here are the simple steps on how to do that:

Find out if it’s still available for registration or not. Go to an ICANN registrar like NameCheap. Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation formed in with participants from all over the world dedicated to keeping the Internet secure, stable and interoperable. It also promotes competition and develops policy on the Internet’s unique identifiers. Namecheap is one of my preferred ICANN accredited registrar. Once you visit the registrar, enter the domain name you want in their search for availability. After you click enter, the site will show “available” (if the name is still available) or “taken” (if it’s already registered and owned by another person or entity). It will also list the name in major extensions like .com, .net, .org, .biz, .tv, et cetera.

If the domain name is still available… congratulations! You can now purchase and register it right there at NameCheap (my favorite registrar) or your other favorite registrar. At the time of this post, a domain costs 9.69 US Dollars per year of registration. To complete a domain purchase, you need to sign-up first for a free account to obtain your username and password for login and managing your domain names later.
After getting an account, you can now pay for the registration of the domain with your credit card, debit card or Paypal account. You can also add an amount to your fund in your account to facilitate your future acquisitions.
Important reminders:
1. Make sure to fill up complete and truthful information (name, company, contact numbers) about your self or your company as the registrant and owner of the domain name. This is a policy required by ICANN. Non compliance with the rule may become a ground for the cancellation of your registration.
2. Be careful of trademarks and domain squatting.
3. Check the background of the domain before you register it. Some currently available domains were expired names that were used in the past. You can check the history of a domain by using WayBackMachine at Archive.org where you can verify its live pages in the past. This is to avoid domains that were blacklisted and banned by major search engines such as porn and gambling sites.
4. Create a very strong password for you account in your registrar.
5. Be sure to renew your domain before it expires.

Its really a first step to have your own website. Its very necessary to register your self with a domain name. You have given very wide knowledge about this matter. Its very beneficial for all thanks for it.
Make sure you take the time to pick a suitable domain name that will work for all aspects of your website. Ideally you would research target keywords to choose a keyword rich domain that helps tell the search engines what your site is about. Sometimes it is best to go after something that is brandable. In those cases, a keyword rich domain may not work well.
Good post! Interactive approach to explain how about buying and registering domain names. I've had some bad domain registration experiences in the past. But luckily, I found LimeDomains and now almost all of my domains are registered with them.
