pork-barbecueIn this time of economic recession, entrepreneurs are struggling on achieving their targeted sales and profits. To be able to raise or merely maintain our revenue level, we need to have something that is an extraordinary. This thing is a significant treasure for every successful business owners. Making your product stands out among others will consequently attract a lot of customers. Big number of customers means big amount of sales. People’s personalities and lifestyles reflect on what they are buying. If they will acquire a product that is outstanding, then they will also feel that their lifestyle is also outstanding. So when they want to stand out among others, they buy and use products that stand out among other products in the market.

So what about the sauce? The products that are offered in the market are almost the same in terms of raw materials. These products, without the sauce, are almost indifferent. I have observed this first in the food industry (of course that is the reason why it is all about sauce). So there were two leading fast-food restaurants in the town. They both offer great spaghetti. But I prefer to love more the other spaghetti than its rival. Why? It is because of the spaghetti sauce. The other spaghetti stands out because of its great and tasty sauce. Without the sauce (only the pasta), you will find the two spaghettis almost taste the same.

The issue is the same with the small entrepreneurs who sell pork and chicken barbecue across the streets in our town. Of course among them, one barbecue seller stands out among others. So you may ask why? The answer do not really lies on the kind of pork and chicken meat they are offering. These raw materials can be obtained in almost the same quality and taste. The answer again is the “sauce”. It is the taste of the barbecue sauce that makes one entrepreneur beat its competitors.

My point is simple. If we want to attract more customers and boost our sales, we need to focus on the things in our product that can be made to become extraordinary. We shall not only rely on the gifts of the nature just like relying on the natural taste of pasta or the natural taste of pork. But instead, we shall rely on our own talent and creativity just like our talent in creating a sauce that wins every market competition. This sauce can be in the form of important add-on on whatever products or services we offer to our valued consumers. This add-on, when added, will bring us an ultimate business success.

  • i used to work at a resturant that served food beer and wine...the servers normally tip 3% of their TOTAL sales, not just food. of course there are exceptions, like if the cook remakes something for you, goes out of their way to make something happen, tip them better, but never worse! there is nothing worse than being a server and having the cooks hate you!
