Business Bible Verses: Do Not Worry About Your Life (Matthew 6:25-27)
Every one of us has his own worries. Whether we are financially poor or living in wealth and fortune, worries doesn’t seem to leave us. Losing our business, our money, family, job, youth and or fame are some of the many worries that we face in our ordinary days. Worries are emotional and mental reactions in which a person feel and think anxious or concerned about an actual or imagined issue. This may include personal issues such as health, finances, careers and relationships. Broader issues such as environmental pollution, social and technological changes and spiritual revolution also add to people’s worries. Moderate and short-lived worries may cause positive effects on a person by giving him precautions and making him an aware and discrete person (e.g., installing security alarms, buying fire insurance and hiring financial and Information System auditors). But in most cases, occurrence of worries to people becomes destructive rather than preventive or directive. Persistent worries can cause heart attacks, high blood pressure, ulcers, gastrointestinal problems, respiratory problems and hypertension. Remember that a healthy body means a healthy mind and a healthy mind means a healthy body.
Entrepreneurs and businessmen also experience worries that are even worse compare to people who are not in business. Business risk or the risk that a company may not have sufficient cash flow to meet its operating expenses is the major issue that will cause a businessman to worry. Business risk involves mainly of financial (debt risk) and economic risk (economic recession or crisis). Because of this fear, some business owners are tempted to do actions that are beyond ethics and morality just to escape experiencing business risk. There are business owners that sacrifice product and service quality just to gain more profit. Others are not fairly compensating their employees just to cut back labor and personnel costs to elevate net profit. But what these businessmen don’t realize is that they are just making their business lives worst. By making unethical actions and decisions, they are putting their selves in shame and at the same time putting their selves in danger. Low quality products will drive customers away and unfair employees’ remuneration will destroy workers morale.
The Bible stated that we should not be worried about our life and about our material needs like food, water and clothing. God will provide us our daily bread as long as we are working righteously. Like the birds who wake up and fly early in the morning, they are nourished by our Father. God insinuates that we are more than the birds and therefore if we will do what is right and kind in business and in any undertakings, God will provide us the best that we should have.
25“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
If we are businessmen and our lives are in business, then God will feed our business as long as we become good businessmen. Let us not worry of losing those material things; worrying will just make us sick. More than that, let us not do things that destroy ethics and righteousness just to escape losing our material and financial needs. Let’s do business the way God wants us to do it.
